Kneeling Woman

"Kneeling Woman" a short documentary that focuses on a long forgotten statue at the FDR home in Hyde Park New York, detailing the restoration process. I filmed and was part of the editing team for this short feature currently on display in the museum.

In September 2016, the Roosevelt Library unveiled a newly restored sculpture from its Museum collection that has an unusual story. The sculpture, created in 1943 by Ralph Stackpole (1885-1973), was banished by FDR to an obscure location on the edge of his estate, where it languished for many years. Click here to learn more about its story: https://fdrlibrary.tumblr.com/post/150815484834/kneeling-woman-1943-by-ralph-stackpole-in-1943 A generous grant from sculptor and Roosevelt Library Trustee, Carolyn Palmer, whose busts of the Roosevelts appear in the Library’s lobby, made it possible to clean, restore, and move the sculpture indoors. This short documentary film shows you how the work was performed. You can see this work by a notable American sculptor in our Visitor Center and learn about its Roosevelt connection.
