John McCain, Arizona Senator, war hero and Republican party maverick has died at the age of 81 after a long battle with brain cancer. Senator McCain was a presidential candidate in 2008, losing to Barack Obama. He was an active, prominent and independent-minded lawmaker to the end. Senator McCain served as an airman in Vietnam, and was shot down and captured by Vietnamese forces.
